This
day long (or weekend intensive) watercolor painting class is ideal for beginners,
teachers, therapists and artists working in any medium who are seeking a fresh
start. Whether your work moves in a realistic or abstract direction, class methods
for evoking self-expression through the transparent magic of watercolor will
be appreciated. By using a full range of non-traditional and experimental watercolor
painting techniques, we will encourage 'the inner artist' to see and create
a personal visual language. From the moment we wet our paper to the final sweep
of form and color, we will attempt to evoke the presence of each artist in his
or her work, discovering the personal palette of colors and shapes unique to
each of us. All levels of skill are welcome. Optional foray into painting with
fluid acrylics on raw or primed canvas.
Class demonstrations and discussion will include wetting the paper or canvas, color, brushwork, edge tinting, compositional energy, atmospheric effects, textural elegance and the use of watercolor crayon and acrylic inks. Innovative methods will build self-confidence in water media techniques and facilitate the spontaneity inherent in water media painting. We encourage our imagery to dance in a playful way. Wet into wet will be emphasized in order to take advantage of the transparent magic possible in watercolor and acrylic painting. Instruction is individualized. Class size is limited to 8 participants. Early enrollment is suggested.
The weekend intensive provides an opportunity for introduction to water media wet-into-wet painting and continued practice with newly acquired techniques and skill. Individual guidance from instructor.
A suggested materials list, confirmation letter, directions to Studio on the Mesa in West Marin County (1-hour north of San Francisco along the Pacific coast) and lodging information will be mailed to enrollees.
To enroll in a Water Media for Self-Expression class, simply mail a check made payable to Carol Duchamp in the amount of $95 for the 1-day and $180 for the weekend intensive (or series amount) to the address below with a note containing class date(s), your address, phone number, email, skill level and what interested you about the class. Course
Outline
These
multi-day watermedia and mixed media painting classes are ideal for beginners,
teachers, therapists and artists working in any medium who are seeking a fresh
Individualized instruction.
Class demonstrations and discussion will include wetting the paper or canvas, color, brushwork, edge tinting, compositional energy, atmospheric effects, textural elegance and the use of watercolor crayon and acrylic inks. In addition, we will experiment with the beauty of accidents, back-up puddles and color saturation. Innovative methods will build self-confidence in water media techniques and facilitate the spontaneity inherent in water media painting. We encourage our imagery to dance in a playful way. Wet into wet will be emphasized in order to take advantage of the transparent magic possible in watercolor and acrylic painting.
Intuitive painting is a new concept to some and not to others. In these process-oriented classes, we will explore the mediums of watercolor and acrylic (optional) as a way to access and release our innermost creativity. We make the invisible visible (Paul Klee) through an art practice that combines skill building with the nurture of the intuitive power of expression. We consider subjective and objective reality in our art. We discover our personal, signature style of art making. Art as play, rhythm as composition, spontaneity as presence - these concepts and practices give a new and vibrant content to our paintings.
These classes are an excellent venue for anyone seeking enhanced creativity, self-expression through the visual arts or an infusion of vitality into current art practice. If you'd like to enhance your painting skills, discover and develop a painting voice that is uniquely yours, then call or email to discuss your interest. Early enrollment is suggested.
The multi-day intensives provide an opportunity for continued practice and skill building so that students experience visible progress. In a class of this nature, we also learn from each other and enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded new friends.
A suggested materials list, confirmation letter, directions to Studio on the Mesa in West Marin County (for commuters) and lodging information will be mailed to enrollees.
