Itinerary
We begin this extraordinary art foray with three nights in Florence and an art history tour de force of the Renaissance. Classes in watercolor sketch painting will be conducted on site at selected museums including the Bargello and the Convent of San Marco. The next five nights will be spent at a luxurious villa near Greve in the heart of Chianti country. We set up for full days of relaxed plein air painting. Enjoy a day trip to Siena from Florence. The age old sentinel cypress, vineyards, olive groves and the Tuscan pink of the villa itself are sure to enchant and inspire. Day 1, Depart San Francisco or hometown; Day 2-4, Florence; Day 5-9, Greve; Day 10, Sienna/Florence; Day 11, Depart Florence.

Classes
This workshop is ideal for beginners, teachers, therapists and artists working in any medium who are seeking a fresh start. Whether your work moves in a realistic or abstract direction, class methods for evoking self-expression through the transparent magic of watercolor will be appreciated. Using a full range of non-traditional watercolor painting techniques, we will encourage 'the inner artist' to see and create a personal visual language.

Class demonstration and discussion will include watercolor quick sketch techniques, wetting the paper, color and pigment interaction, brushwork, edge shading, composition and the use of watercolor crayon. From the moment we wet our paper to the final sweep of form and color, we will attempt to evoke the presence of each artist in his or her work, discovering the personal palette of colors and shapes unique to each of us. Both representational and abstract approaches to painting the Tuscan landscape will be taught. All levels of skill are welcome, as are friends and spouses of workshop participants.
