Sample Itinerary
Day 1, July 27 Morning transfer from Rome airport to La Romita School of Art. Arrival lunch, rest and orientation.

Day 2-14, July 28-August 9 Daily painting class at chapel/studio and/or hilltown excursion for plein air painting or sightseeing to such local gems as Spoleto, Todi, Assisi, Orvieto Villa Lante & Perugia.

Day 15, August 10 Morning departure to Rome airport.

Classes
This workshop is ideal for beginners, teachers, therapists and artists working in any medium who are seeking a fresh start. Renew your art spirit with color and wet-into-wet water media techniques that offer the amateur and professional painter the broadest expressive range. Whether your work moves in a realistic or abstract direction, class methods for evoking self-expression through the transparent magic of watercolor will be appreciated. Class builds on wet-into-wet watercolor techniques to include further exploration of fluid acrylic painting. Watercolororists are welcome to pursue their own body of work in the medium of watercolor only. Using a range of traditional and non-traditional painting techniques, we will encourage 'the inner artist' to see and create a personal visual language and record of this beautiful foray into authentic Italy.

Demonstrations and discussion will include wetting the paper or canvas, color and pigment interaction, brushwork, compositional energy, atmospheric effects, edge tinting, textual elegance, and the use of watercolor crayon, acrylic inks and image transfer. From the moment we wet our paper to the final sweep of form and color, we will attempt to evoke the presence of each artist in his or her work, discovering the personal palette of colors and shapes unique to each of us. All levels of skill are welcome, as are friends and spouses of workshop participants.

Artist-Instructor Carol Duchamp encourages experimentation and self-discovery in a supportive environment that nourishes the intuitive power of self-expression. An exhibiting artist, Carol's traing includes transformative and expressive arts. She has over twelve years of experience as an art teacher and workshop organizer. Carol currently teaches for College of Marin and Art Trek. She has taught for UCSC and UCLA Extensions, City College of San Francisco and Sun Valley Art Center among others.
